Indian started out in 1901 building classic American custom bikes in Springfield, Massachusetts and during the 1910s became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. The Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company went bankrupt in 1953 and it took until 2011 for Polaris Industries to purchase Indian Motorcycles and relocate operations to their HQ in in Minnesota and Iowa. In March 1959 Don & Derek Rickman launched the “Rickman Bulbarrow Bombshell” and called it Métisse (French for Mongrel). The Watsonian Folding Sidecar Co. was founded in 1912 at Balsall Heath in Birmingham. Since then the company has continued to produce great British sidecars, surviving two world wars, economic boom and bust and a major factory fire in 1930.
