The Stelvio Pass is located in Italy, at 2757 m (9045 feet),and is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps.
The Pass was picked by Top Gear as its choice for the "greatest driving road in the world". This conclusion was reached after the team went in search of a road that would satisfy every "petrolhead's" driving fantasies in the premiere of the show's 10th season.
It certainly is a great destination for a biking adventure. The mountain landscape is amazing, and it’s surrounded by beautiful little Italian villages, where you can sleep, sample the local cuisine, and chat a bit with the owner of the place. You’ll find that people in this area are very welcoming, and more often than not, if you’re a rider, will like to have a drink and share biking stories with you.
On our way back, we found a bit of fog, which didn’t make things easy. But then again, what’s an adventure without something unexpected?
Ride safely,
Giuliano
