So, on my last blog I was still riding my Yamaha 125 WR X (Which I must say was such a great bike). Well since then lots has happened. With the help of Mertropolis bikes at Vauxhall I completed my theory and then passed my stage one with no faults. Had a good few hours on the XJ6 which is the bike they use for the tests and it was great. Quickly got used to the weight of the bike and also the power. Obviously a big step up from the 125. The difference is huge and if you have not ridden at 600 it is great. The smooth power delivery makes it a very easy bike to ride but also very exciting. So, having passed my module 1 is was then time for 35 minutes with the instructor. All I can say is that it did not go that well. One serious fault and you fail. I stupidly got one in the first 10 minutes. Went into a gap on a roundabout which he deemed effected the on coming car and that was it. FAILED. Gutted. However, I am very pleased to say that after a second attempt and a lot of nerves I passed with only two minors and it has been awesome!!!
I now have a black Yamaha XJ6 Diversion. It is brilliant. I have already done some nice trips driving up to NOrfolk and absolutely loving it. You can accelerate away from any problems with such ease and it is great fun to drive. One of the main things when getting your license is getting a new bike and insuring it. As you might expect this can be expensive and biking is is regarded as a risky hobby by insurers. Howver, there are some specific bike insurance companies who will do you a god deal and really look after you. I can highly recommend CAROL NASH INSURANCE. I am presently with them as they are involved in the campaign and they are great. Definitely contact them if you are looking to insure a bike, what ever it is and they will give you a very competitive rate (and tell them you are part of the Get On followers!!).
So, it has been a long road but one I have enjoyed. I have learned so much through Get On and my training at Metropolis and now have all the fun of riding ahead of me. It is definitely worth the effort. not just because bikes are cheaper to run, quicker in town but they are fantastic fun to ride and open up a whole new world of experiences. Get your license and GET ON!! Life is better on two wheels, trust me!!
