Top 10 Motorcycle Albums - Part 1

About this time last year, we posted up a news article covering our ten favourite biking tracks. Obviously they still stand, and there is a great selection to get your teeth into, but in recognition of the summer being in full swing we're throwing down another gauntlet with our top 10 biking albums. Check it out:

#1 ACDC - Highway to Hell

Highway to Hell was the sixth album to be produced by AC/DC, and by many accounts marked the explosion of the band into the US and intenational hard rock scene. Tame by modern-day standards, it's a stunning album of killer riffs and incredible lyrics.

#2 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl

Howl was the third album to be produced by the incredible B.R.M.C. and although it wasn't as critically acclaimed as previous outings, it's certainly the best motorcycle-feel album they have produced. An ecclectic mix of blues, country and gospel make this a no brainer.

#3 Motorhead - Motorhead

Motorhead's eponymously named debut album, and still sounds as fresh now as it did then. Historically, this was a last-chance saloon for Motorhead who had been trying in vain to get a contract. Weird to think a band this good nearly slipped through the cracks of history.

#4 Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf

We had to include steppenwolf in here, not least for the heavy association with the 1969 film, Easy Rider but also for the fact that 'Born to Be Wild' is ubiquitously used when refferring to biking culture and history. Considered at the time to be the first ever Heavy Metal song, we give you: Born to be Wild!

Steppenwolf - Steppenwolf

#5 Manic Street Preachers - Generation Terrorists

Generation Terrorists was the debut album from the iconic Welsh Band and in many ways is one of their most exciting albums, especially when looking at what came after. Seeing the beginnings of giants such as these is truly awesome. We bring you a down-tempo track to finish off part 1: Motorcycle Emptiness.

Fantastic to see BRMC (my fave band) on this list! Don't think I would've picked Howl as a biking album, though. How about Take Them On, On Your Own (their second one)? That's stuffed full of what I consider to be bike tunes!

loving the Biker music, and i set up a Jukebox originally for MCN forum, most of the tracks were chosen by Forum members and it took off so well that i have a full time Jukebox site now, requests can be left there and if i can find it i add it to the Wurlitzer Jukebox. If you are interested checkout http://www.wix.com/madmark99/madmark99s-jukebox and have some rockin sounds playing while reading the great articles and posts here :)

I gotta go with AC/DC Highway to Hell!! plenty of other good songs too which remind me of biking such as Thunderstruck (the way i felt after opening my bike up on a private airstrip) and a good old chill out track for winding down after a long run out AC'DC's "Have a drink on me" no i dont advocate the use of intoxicants whilst riding lol you know what i mean...ride safe!!

Judas Priest Hell Bent for leather is a track that deserves inclusion in this list.

I think Jasper Carott's "Blue Funky Moped" deserves a look in, not least due to the absurdity of it!
