Best starter bike
Best starter bike
I know its a long way for me untill i can feel the wind in my helmet without L plates but i have been looking through reviews left right and centre and non of them i would say give a clear cut topic on the "bikes to look for after direct access"
Also with Suzuki's offer of buying a bike and having a restrictor fitted that has made me look at their 600cc range... and being new to the 2 wheel world im wanting advice on mainly their range of the Bandit, SV650 and the Gladius but if there is any other 600ISHcc bike to look out for also
Can any one offer some light on which is the most rider Friendly but also 1 thats practical?
Many thanx!
Danny :)

Hi Danny,
Glad you hear you have caught the two wheel bug! How far are you into the process? I'm assuming that your planning on taking a direct access course?
Sadly like you say there isn't much advice out there for the ideal first bike. The bikes you mention are great starter bikes - my friends used to have SV650's and they rated them highly. I myself ride a Honda Hornet 600 - I have just come back to biking after a 5+ year gap due to an accident.
I wanted an easy to ride back and something which would help ease me back into biking. The hornet is an easy bike to ride and is very forgiving i.e. you can make mistakes and normally get away with it. It's got plenty of use able power and is fun to ride. It can also keep up with some of the big boys e.g. GSXR600, R6 etc on the country roads!
I would suggest adding the Hornet to your list :-)
Cheers,
Alex
Thanx for the advice alex :)
Sadly it will be a few months before I join the 2 wheel world but with suzuki having their free restrictor offer i was wanting to do my research.
And i must say the hornet looks beautiful!
Hello,
Just to chip in with my ten peneth, it is true that unless you take in to consideration the various opinions of journalist test or trawl through reviews on forums, there is no real way of finding ou whether a bike will suit unless you ride it.
As well as the bikes mentioned above (Hornet, SV650, Bandit and Gladius), Kawasaki have the ER-6 and Yamaha have the XJ6 and XJ6 Diversion models.
As with Suzuki, Yamahas XJ6 and XJ6 Diversion models will also be supplied with restrictors free of charge when bought new, but even if bought second hand, you local Yamaha dealer would be able to supply and fit a restrictor kit but obviously there would be a charge.
You could go also go for Yamahas older FZ6 or FZ6 Fazer models which featured a de-tuned (for low and mid range torque) R6 motor but it depends if you are planning to buy new or used.
I hope this sheds a bit more light on your decision.
Hey karl.
Well i think my best bet would be to just not worry about that yet and once i can rip my L plates up, test ride the bikes i have my eyes on and possibly make a "Best starter bike" blog...but that will be awhile...shame! :(
thanx anyway karl :)
