WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? Aged 58 I would like to like to try riding a scooter for the first time and, in order to achieve this, registered with Geton on Tuesday 10 April 2012. Once my account was set up I received an email from Geton advising me that my free ride had been booked with PROBIKE (Billericay), my chosen local training school, and that they "would be in touch soon to arrange a convenient time for me to have my first ride". Not so! Geton's email also stated that I could feel free to contact PROBIKE myself if I wanted to make the arrangements rather than wait for their 'phone call. Again, not so! To date, my experience of dealing with PROBIKE Unit 8 Kings Head Farm Stock Road Billericay Essex CM4 9PH has been extremely poor. Their 'phone number 0800 032 1512 is a mobile number and always unreachable. I have been onto an independent website which gives a Billericay number 01277 841613 for them but, when contacted, redirects immediately to the 0800 032 1512 number. PROBIKE's website also gives readers the opportnity to email them direct. Unfortunately, the site has not been set up correctly so there is no email facililty either! All this is very disappointing, and I now feel very let down by PROBIKE. It seems that I have had to get off before I can even get on.!! . |

Hiya all, Wayne here from Aberdeen. Am 40, and today, spent my time with Allan from RightStart Motoring for my Get On free session! Was great !! Very easy to get on with ( no pun intended ) brought things to an easy level for me, and am pleased with what I learned on the day, right up till I hit a small hurdle in myself, I couldn't actually get on the bike itself!! Every time I tried, I kept thinking I was gonna drop the bike?? So I will go back and see Allan again in a fortnights time and have a look at the scooter quickly before deciding on the CBT via the Scooter.... It isn't what I really want to be totally honest, but, until such time as I can physically get my damned leg over, its a compromise I am willing to accept! It will not phase me, Yes am annoyed about not managing it, but I am going to get my arse on 2 wheels, one way or another!!! Would I recommend this GetOn! to folks who want to see if they can or could manage to control a motorbike or scooter !! HELL YES ! Young or Old, you get a basic idea of what it will take!! And at £90 - £120 for the CBT itself if you decide to go that way! Gives you 2 years to master the bike / scooter!! So in time, with luck, I may just see you all out there, Stay Safe and Ride Safe ! |

I have the same problem, Wayne! I'm not very tall... not short as such but short enough for most bikes to be a problem. That said, I can get on a YBR 125. I had a little sit on one at the MCN show the other week. Thing to do is go to your local dealer and have a sit on a few bikes. There are plenty out there that the likes of us can get our legs over. :) |

On the wrong side of 40 - I decided last year to start lessons as I'm a pillion passenger on my partners bike. I did two lessons with, We will call him X - and he left me on my own going around in circles in a busy parking lot. I fell off unbeknown to the instructor!!!! I was already nervous, as I am on the short side and worried about being able to put my feet on the ground. This made me throw in the towel. So this year I received a Free 'Get on' and I booked with Daire from Limavady & Coleraine Motorcycle Training. WOW - what a difference!!! Daire ran beside me to build my confidence and showed me an easy way to stop and feel confident. I passed by theory and Hazard test and purchased my first bike already. Which shows I intend in passing my test and growing with confidence. Daire is a GREAT instructor and lets you learn at your pace - although encouraging you with each lesson to do more and makes you feel great when you achieve!! I would highly recommend Daire as an instructor. Next lesson already booked! |

Hi everyone! well i started my first lesson yesterday after having my free ride with Daire from Limavady & Coleraine motorcycle training the week before. The instruction was just as professional as the free ride lesson and Daire is a fantastic trainer. I also had my theory test booked for today which i shall comment on in a moment. The lesson started off with me practicing my U-turn as this is something i find extremely difficult to do. I don't know what my problem is on this manoeuvre apart from feeling that it is so strange to me to turn right on a U-turn. I don't know if it's because of being right handed and turning left seems so natural, but upon turning right feels so unnatural.I suppose is just man versus machine and the bike i am training on is having a little clash of personalities with me at the moment. It feels like trying to tame a wild stallion at the moment and i'm sure if i was to be a bit more firm or gentle with her, we would get on just fine. I think i'll give the old girl a name and try and bond with her more, as i think at the moment she is playing hard to get so to speak. once i pass my test and obtain a full bike license, i'll probably never do a U-turn, just go straight or around the bend doing left turns until i reach my destination. On second thoughts! i'll not give up on the U-turns i'll just have to bite the bullet and practice. Well as mentioned previously i had my theory test booked for today and yes i was nervous over the test as i'm sure most people are. I had been practising the theory and hazard perception quite a bit and yes you get great scores and also bad scores too. The reason for the bad scores is you know what questions are and without reading them fully, you just click on the wrong answer. so my advice is thoroughly read the questions before answering. I used to teach Microsoft products and put students through exams and always encouraged them to read the question. I should of practiced what i preached!!. Going back to my theory test today which was nerve wrecking and i finished the tests and was handed my folded paper. I couldn't look at it in the testing centre due to apprehension, so i left the centre with my folded results paper and went to a local cafe for a long awaited cup of tea. At that point i then looked at the result and what a relief, i passed and a massive grin bestowed my face. My next step is to book the Module 1 practical test and carry on having my lessons with Daire as i couldn't of picked a better trainer. good luck to everyone who is thinking of taking their bike lessons and above all else! Ride safe. |

I had my free ride with Daire today and after 23yrs of not riding and never holding a motorcycle license, i knew deep down that this is something i really need to do and that is to obtain a full motorcycle license. My day started off with Daire collecting me from Coleraine Bus Depot and then taking me to a place where he does his instructional training. i was on the bike within minutes and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Daire is one hell of a guy and a brilliant instructor. i am starting my lessons with Daire next week and i'm sure with Daire's professional instruction and my willingness and determination, i should have my license pretty soon. i can't thank Daire enough for today he is a true gent and a witty guy who makes you feel at ease and i'm sure the next time i visit Daire for my lesson it will just be as excellent as it was today. Please believe me that if anyone is thinking or wanting to obtain a full motorcycle license then please do not hesitate to cantact Daire and he will give you a most enjoyable lesson. Thanks very much Daire for today and i will see you next week to commence training. To everyone out there, Ride Safe. |

Just had the most amazing morning with my free ride at Alpha Rider Training in Grantham... It was fun, personal and professional. It sounds like a cliche but I genuinely can't recommend them enough. I had thought I was a little too old and a little to short to be trying motorbikes at 36 and 5ft 2, even though they have always been a dream of mine. After talking with Maria and having a trial ride I am hooked! I just love it, it is everything I hoped it would be and more. My only regret is having wasted so much time before getting on a motorbike. It is a fantastic experience with absolutely no pressure, it is a perfect way to experience something new! The staff at Alpha Rider Training love motorbikes and their whole ethos feels like they are just trying to share that feeling with you, not sell you anything, or persuade you, just enable you to understand why so many people love bikes and to let you feel the exhilaration whilst at all times being perfectly safe in their care. This experience is a memory I shall always treasure, I am so grateful to Maria for giving up her saturday morning for free to a complete stranger... she's a star! Treat yourself to a free ride at Alpha Rider Training in Grantham, it will be the best thing you do all year, trust me! Thanks again, Sarah

Many thanks to the guys at Hornchurch cardrome for making my free ride so enjoyable. I hadn't ridden for over 20 years but the advice and tutoridge I was given on the day was excellent and really helped. I left with confidence restored and would like to recommend anyone to visit the centre. Steve |
