I fell off..now what?

I started learning a few years ago and fell off two weeks before my test. I did an uncontrolled controlled stop (trying to accelerate and brake). I ended up having shoulder surgery. I am female and 55. My bike (125) has sat in the back yard since the accident. I would love to achieve this lifetimes ambition of being able to ride a bike but how do I find a way to do this? I need some really skilled help.

An expert will answer this question soon. Please feel free to add your own thoughts below

Hi, you're not the first so take cheer from that. Mistakes happen when learning and that's what the practise - practise - practise is about. Generally, your natural reaction isn't right (riding a bike isn't natural) but practise builds the "muscle memory" a new and trained rather than natural reaction.

What happened to you has happened to others and they all got through it. First you need a confidence builder - you say this was a few years ago? then you'll need to renew your CBT anyway. CBT is designed for absolute beginers so will tease you back onto the bike nicely.

If you're really worried, book a Get-On free ride and have a 1hr session to settle those nerves. Either way, talk to the Instructor after and they'll prepare a course to suit you.

And get the bike checked over, it's stood for too long. An oil change is a must, things may have got sticky, cables might be corroding etc. Always ensure the bikes tip top.

See you on road soon.

To echo what Nigel says, don't let this get you down. This is exactly how we learn and gain experience.

We'd love to see you on the road soon!
