Ideal Starter Bike (125cc)

I'm waiting on my free ride but already looking at the possibilty of purchasing a bike.

I've been told that if I take my CBT that I can buy something like the Pioneer Nevada and ride it for up to 2 years before either taking my test or redoing the CBT.

2 questions, firstly is it true that you can redo the CBT (forever)?

Does anybody own the Pioneer (recommended or stay away)?

Cheers

Graham

Hi there Graham.

I'd advise steering clear of the brands like Jinlun, Pioneer and so on. I was considering one of the cheap and cheerful 125 cruisers to cut my teeth on but after talking to a few folk with more biking experience and mechanical knowledge that I do, I was glad I took the precaution of a little research.

Even checking with local bike service centres, they won't touch those type of brands, either because getting spare parts is nigh impossible, or the quality of the metals is terrible.

MCN recently had a readers poll of the public's opinion of the 10 best 125's out there, here is the link if you want a bit of reading material:

Makes me glad I settled for a Honda Shadow!

On the subject of CBT's you can just keep refreshing it every two years if you so desire.

Hi Graham

Thanks for using the Get On website. If you are over 17 years old you can take a CBT on a 125cc machine and then ride on the road for two years (with learner restrictions) before either progressing to your test or as you indicate, retaking your CBT.

We would advise that you speak to a trainer about your requirements - they can listen to what you want to achieve from your riding and assist you.

Many thanks
