Moto Roma SMX SK-125

Has anyone heard of this bike?

I'm looking at getting a brand new one as a first bike because it's really cheap, even more so than a lot of second hand bikes, and I'd like to know if anyone has any experience or knowledge of this particular bike.

Because of the price I'm a bit dubious about it's quality so if anyone has any information I'd be ever so grateful.

An expert will answer this question soon. Please feel free to add your own thoughts below

Hi Domology. Don’t forget the saying “buy cheap, buy twice”. Whilst I do not have experience of this particular machine and as such cannot comment, I would say stick to a machine from a well known brand, even if this means buying a used machine. This is not only from a reliability point of view but also for spares and resale value. Most of the sales pitch for the cheaper machines is that they are engines based on a Japanese machine, but in my experience very few parts are interchangeable.

Hope this helps

Cheers.

I ended up buying a new Yamaha YBR 125 instead.

Cool stuff! Will you give us your review of the Yamaha?

Excellent choice you really can’t go wrong with a YBR125. Check your owners manual on servicing, as not many people realize that the YBR requires an oil change between services.  This can be carried out by yourself, just keep a log of the mileage and a receipt for the oil, just incase you need any work carried out under the warranty. I hope you have many miles of happy motorcycling.

Just a little update. We at DUMFRIES SCOOTERS AND MOTORCYCLES have now sold quite a few MOTOROMA SK125's and they have proved very good indeed.

Remember that MOTOROMA have the backing of EP Barrus which means that spare parts will never be a problem and with regular servicing you will have a machine that is equal to the Yamaha but at nearly half the price.Another point to consider is that most learners will want to get their full test under there belt sooner rather than later and you will find it far easier to sell a 1 year old SK125 than a more expensive Jap model.Ok the SK125 is made in China, wonder where the YBR is made?.....answers on a postcard.....anyway,the main thing is you have a bike....enjoy.
