I drove past my local rider training school (Route 66 in Motherwell) pretty much once a week for the last two years but only started thinking about leaning at the end of March. The Get On free ride was available with them and that encouraged me to try riding ather than remain a pillon passenger.

I wasn't sure quite what the CBT entailed so booked a couple more 1-2-1 lessons over the next 3 weeks before being TOLD to take the CBT. On CBT day I went completely to pot on slow control so didn't complete the day. One more individual lesson before my re-sit saw me tthrough the CBT. First ride to CBT pass, 6½ weeks or 4 hours of lessons + CBT time.

Daresay it can be done in a day but I'm in no rush and will approach the Direct Access also at my pace. I have an IAM examiner friend ready to help me prepare for Direct Access but will definately use Route 66 again as they are a great crew and have the bikes I'll need to prepare for and take the test on. Highly recommend them to anyone in Lanarkshire or central Scotland generally.

Whoever you chose for your CBT will be a professioanl crew, wanting to encourage you into biking but absolutely committed to giving you the basic skills to keeping you (and other road users) SAFE on the road. Good luck.

My wife and son did their CBT with M&D in Guildford, who were absolutely excellent. I did my bike test long before CBT even existed, though I did a RAC/ACU course before taking my test so that I would feel confident. The others are now whizzing around on an old Kawasaki KH100, while I ride a ZZR1400 as my day-to-day ride :-)

I'm quite fresh as I did it only in March this year. I did it with Lightning Motorcycle Training - I can definitely recommend them if you live anywhere near Oxford.

First of all mate don't think of it as a test. CBT (T stands for training) is aimed at giving you basic skills on a bike. It depends on you how long you will take to learn what you need. Some of my friends got it after 1 day. It took me 3. Before I took it I haven't ridden or driven any motor vehicle. I had to learn how to operate a motorbike (it took me ages to get to grips with gears!), basics of Highway Code (I recommend reading it before going for a CBT) and how to ride on public roads.

If you need to learn from a scratch and have any mates with small bikes who can help you learn use them - go to some Tesco car park and practice. I would've done it myself but unfortunately I didn't know anyone who could help me.

All I can say - don't push yourself. If you need more time - keep it at that. In the end I was glad I had to take a few more days - felt way better prepared and more confident.

I registered for the get on at my B.C Motorcycle Training in Northwich.I managed to organise my CBT straight after the get on ride and passed yesterday 17/7.

I had my free ride from 8am-9am then progressed onto the training from 9am-3pm. The CBt encoporated a minimum of 2hrs riding a 125 on the roads so brought home everything I had learnt during the day.

I did my CBT on 27th March 2011 after my free ride at Bike Rite in Rutherglen. I decided to ride my 125 daily to work to get some road experience and today 29/07 I passed my practical bike test (Module 2). Can't wait to get myself a bigger bike now that summer has arrived. Just take things at your own pace and only do your test when you feel ready yourself. Best of luck.
