Get On Northampton! Make the switch from four to two wheels.
Workers living or working in Northampton will get the chance to try a motorcycle or scooter for free tomorrow (Thursday 22nd September), when Get On comes to town. This could be the first step for those looking for more efficient and less expensive ways of commuting.
It is suitable for complete beginners, aged 15 or over, or those wanting to regain some confidence after a break from biking and will take place at The Claret Car Park, Edgar Mobbs Way, Northampton, NN5 5JT, which is opposite the Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club.
Sessions last half an hour, during which time riders can try a scooter or small motorcycle and learn about brakes, gears, clutch and slow speed handling. Instruction is by patient professional trainers and all protective clothing is provided. Riders just need to wear long jeans and sturdy shoes and those aged under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
Northamptonshire County Council includes motorcycling as a sustainable transport option, through a council led project – Motorcycle Northants. With 2000 council workers due to relocate to new premises in Angel Street in the town centre soon, pressure on parking will be far greater.
It is possible to turn up on the day, subject to availability and sessions start from 9am. You can get more information by calling Andy on 02476 408040 during office hours.
