Advanced Motorcycle Training: The Enhanced Rider Scheme
If you have done your CBT and passed your full Motorcycle Test but recognise that advanced motorcycle training can improve your riding, or if you’re looking for ways to find cheaper motorcycle insurance, consider the Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS).
Approved by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), ERS is a personalised training and assessment programme delivered by government-approved post-test trainers. When you get your DSA Certificate of Competence most insurance companies will offer you a discount in recognition of your improved riding skills.
First, your trainer will go out for a ride with you and watch you riding normally on your own motorcycle. It could be that you don’t need any more advanced motorcycle training, and you get your certificate at once! But most riders, however experienced, have areas of their motorcycling that could be better. So your trainer will make a personal training plan for your one-to-one training.
Depending on your needs, this could cover any of:
- Cornering
- Filtering between traffic
- Negotiating bends
- Road positioning
- Riding more smoothly
You can do the training as an intensive course, or in shorter sessions to fit around your schedule.
