With so many types of motorcycle, from nippy scooters to stylish cruisers to vintage style beauties, how do you know what suits your needs and your style? Check out the different kinds of motorcycles and scooters below.
From the continent crossing‘trail’ style adventure bikes to the more ‘supermoto’ style ones – if a really adventurous look is your thing, then maybe this is where your biking heart lies.
This style is for those of you who have a more laid back approach. These bikes have a low seat height and a very relaxed riding position, which makes them the perfect partner for new riders or a lazy Sunday afternoon.
If you prefer getting a bit of mud on your clothes– then these bikes would really appeal to you. They're not a completely off – road bike, but rather is designed to handle gentle off road with ease. Able to cope with tarmac roads aswell as these machines can take you from Lands End to John O'Groats the direct route.
Scooters are brilliant to zip around town on– and some of the bigger models can make longer out of town journeys. Scooters come in many shapes and sizes from 50cc (moped scooters) right up to 650cc. With easy twist and go throttles, weather protection and handy storage they're great for those new to biking.
The perfect commuting or weekend bike. This style is what most non– motorcyclists would probably consider as a "normal" bike and come in both modern and retro styles and also in all engine sizes.
These bikes are often the best all - rounders. They can tour, are really great for the weekly commute and can give you pleasure and fun on the weekend. They are comfortable easy to ride and generally have been designed with the first time rider in mind.
These are race replicas, and look like racing bikes. For most you'll find a higher seat height and a longer reach to produce a racing crouch when you're sitting on the bike. They tend to be more difficult for beginners to handle due to their sporty nature and may be less comfortable in traffic or over any distance. But if the style appeals there's bound to be one to suit you.
This bike is for someone who would like to venture a little further a field. The Tourer is designed to chew up the miles in total comfort and can easily cross - continents. Bigger engines and bigger fuel tanks mean bigger and longer trips.
Geared mopeds, like scooter mopeds, are legally restricted to 30mph top speed and 50cc in engine size and if you are 16 years old they are the only option open to you. However unlike the twist and go nature of scooter mopeds they are designed like ‘big’ bikes with a clutch and gears and come in all sorts of styles from Supersport to Trail – just like their bigger brothers. So if you are 16 and want a big bike feel then a geared moped is the way to go.
