It can be hard to get a job, or even to go to college, without your own transport, especially if you don’t live in a town or city. So from Surrey to Scotland, the Wheels to Work scheme helps people to get mobile and get off benefits.
All the Wheels 2 Work schemes are locally run, so the details may be different, but the central idea is brilliantly simple. For a few pounds a week, you can run a scooter or moped, meaning you’re no longer limited by public transport. That could mean you can take on a job, or get training or education, and break the vicious circle of no money – no transport - no job – no money.
Now Stephen Pound MP has tabled an Early Day Motion in parliament, calling for national support for the scheme. Seems we’re not the only ones to recognise how cheap, practical and liberating a scooter or motorcycle can be!
And don’t forget, if you’re thinking of getting on two wheels, you can try a scooter or motorbike for nothing through Get On – just register your details for the free trial session, and a local motorcycle training centre will be in touch to arrange your one hour taster. Then, if you like it, you can learn to ride and get your own transport.
Get on two wheels.. and off benefits with Wheels to Work!
