Blake star Stephen Bowman has gone back to the future and is swapping his DeLorean for life on two wheels. Last week he took delivery of a stunning Yamaha WR125 X, and now the classic car is making way for his brand new motorcycle.
Former model Bowman, who now performs with the double Classical Brit nominated band Blake, decided to make the switch after missing rehearsals at the Albert Hall this month. The DeLorean may be able to travel in time, but it’s no match for London’s rush-hour traffic.
'I've had my DeLorean for 10 years now’, says Bowman. ‘It's rare, it's unique, but frankly it gets stuck in traffic like every other car. Unlike the film, this one doesn't fly, so, having completed my CBT with the Get On campaign, I've decided to put the car up for sale and swap four wheels for two. Now I'll actually get to concerts on time and save a fortune in fuel and running costs!'
The DeLorean became one of the world’s most iconic cars after its appearance as a time machine in the hit film Back to the Future. Stephen has had potential buyers from all over the world enquiring about the car, including GMTV and Sky News presenter Eamonn Holmes who contacted the singer via Twitter.
With a Classical Brit Award already under their belt, Blake will be one of the headline acts at this year’s glittering ceremony on the 13th May, when they will be up for Album of the Year as the first ever independent band to be nominated. Getting to concerts, recording studios and photoshoots on time has never been more crucial which is why Stephen has opted for the traffic busting alternative of the Yamaha WR125 X over his collector’s dream, the DeLorean.
Now all four members of Blake (Stephen Bowman, Humphrey Berney, Jules Knight and Oliver Baines) have successfully completed their CBT through the Get On campaign – the training required to be able to ride a motorcycle or scooter up to a capacity of 125cc.
