If you’re a fan of Danny John-Jules, who plays the Cat on Red Dwarf, you could win the chance to spend a week with him and fellow motorcyclist Steve Keys, riding across Europe on Challenge 125.
But you can only enter if you don’t yet ride a motorbike or scooter.
Danny and Steve, and their lucky travel companion, will have just £125 each to get them 1,000 miles from London, across France, Switzerland and Italy, arriving finally at the Misano World Circuit for the San Marino MotoGP. That money has to cover petrol, food, ferry crossing, camping... everything!
Lucky, then, that all three will be riding Yamaha YBR125 motorbikes that do around 90 mpg, but a certain gift of the blag may still be necessary to help you on the way.
How it works:
If you don’t hold a motorcycle licence and you're 17 or older, you’re eligible.
First you must complete a free one hour experience ride with Get On (this must be booked through the 125 challenge web site), an hour’s introduction to riding with a friendly, qualified instructor at a training school near you. We’ll lend you a helmet and safety kit, and you won’t have to go onto public roads.
You'll then have to complete the entry form and convince Danny and Steve that you would be the ideal travel companion for thier amazing trip. Only six lucky people will then be chosen to complete their CBT (or refund the cost to a maximum of £100 if already taken) allowing them to ride a motorbike or scooter up to 125cc in the UK.
Three of the six will then be chosen to carry on and do their Full Motorcycle Test.
Then the scariest part – those three finalists will pitch to a panel including Danny, Steve and a guest judge, to argue that they are cool enough to join the gang.
The winner gets to keep the Yamaha YBR125 motorbike, custom painted for the trip, specially designed leather jacket, gloves, boots and Arai helmet.
The prize also includes a pair of paddock passes for the MotoGP race at San Marino – so if you’re starting to bite your own knuckles with envy because you’re already riding and can’t enter, now’s the time to get that non-riding friend onto a motorbike at last. In their gratitude, they’ll give you the guest pass (fingers crossed).
